Converting your loft space is an increasingly popular way to increase the amount of living accommodation in your home. Most of us only use our loft space to store the christmas decorations or other unused items so why not create a space that can be enjoyed everyday! Ideal for growing families or adapting your home to modern day living incorporating work and hobby space, loft conversions allow you to increase the size of your home without having to build an extension or reduce your garden space. Loft conversions are also a perfect solution for adding first floor accommodation to a bungalow with the larger footprint often providing a great deal of opportunity to increase the size of the property.
The Silver Fern team are experienced in loft conversion projects and are able to guide you throughout the process. Our people are the difference; they are the key to our success, and the success of your loft conversion project. Our team have the experience and know how to make sure things run as planned. Aspects of your loft conversion that we can advise on include.
Most loft conversions require new access via a stairway from the first floor to the new second floor space and there are various ways that this can be achieved depending on the layout of your property and what you will be using your new living space for. The most popular option is to add a return above the existing staircase but there are alternatives to discuss if the budget allows some remodelling on the first floor.
There are so many options available now to optimise your enjoyment of a new loft conversion including french doors and Velux balcony windows, especially if you will enjoy spectacular views from a higher position. A dormer window will accommodate traditional window options but if budget doesn’t allow for a dormer then Velux roof lights will bring light to the loft conversion. In our experience we usually install a combination of traditional windows and roof lights to make the space as light and airy as possible.
When you’re creating a Master Bedroom space in your loft, a stunning ensuite bathroom or shower room really adds to your enjoyment. Another popular use for loft conversion space is 2 additional bedroom a with shared shower room. Working with the existing plumbing system for loft conversion bathroom spaces can be cost efficient and avoid complications. Something we always avoid is creating rooms with restricted head space in key areas, if your new accommodation is difficult or less enjoyable to use, you won’t get the required return for your investment.
Any good loft conversion starts with an idea. We love taking these ideas and helping to develop them into what people dream about. We understand that sometimes this can be a bit daunting. To help with this, we have developed a process which takes as much of the pressure away from our customers as possible. We have dedicated building project coordinators who walk each step along with our clients, through what can sometimes feel like a “minefield” of questions. We have a breakdown of every task, every cost, every item and have created a transparency which builds trust and confidence.
